Fish Screening Task Force to meet in John Day

SALEM - Oregon's Fish Screening Task Force will meet Saturday, June
26, 2004, in John Day at the Fish Screen Shop, W Highway 26 Patterson
Bridge Road, to hear briefings on current statewide fish screening
issues and projects.

The Fish Screening Task Force is appointed by the Oregon Fish and
Wildlife Commission and meets several times yearly. This seven-member
task force advises the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife on fish
screening policies and issues. Agricultural, fisheries, and public
interests are represented on the task force.

A tour of John Day River Basin fish screens will depart at 10 a.m. from
the Screen Shop. Thereafter, a tour of the Screen Shop will start at
noon. The meeting will occur after the Shop tour, starting at 1 p.m. and
ending by about 5 p.m. Saturday's agenda includes presentations about
statewide fish screening projects, screens maintenance funding and
program funding.

Fish screens are an essential part of any system that diverts water
from a public water body. They are designed to prevent the loss of
young fish as the water is used for irrigation, municipal, hydroelectric
or other beneficial purposes.

For more information, contact Bernie Kepshire, Fish Screening Program
state coordinator, (503) 947-6229.
