Bonneville Reservoir closes to sturgeon retention June 26
SALEM - The Columbia River between Bonneville Dam and The Dalles Dam
will close to the retention of sturgeon effective 12:01 a.m., Saturday,
June 26, because the catch guideline will be reached, the Oregon
Department of Fish and Wildlife announced today.
Catch and release sturgeon angling may continue in Bonneville Reservoir
for the remainder of 2004.
The Columbia River sturgeon harvest is managed using catch guidelines.
This area of the river had a 700 sturgeon catch quota. The areas between
The Dalles Dam and John Day and John Day Dam and McNary Dam remain open
to sturgeon retention until the catch guideline is reached.
The Columbia River from the mouth upstream to the Wauna Powerlines is
open to sturgeon retention through July 23. Oregon and Washington
biologists are monitoring catch in this area and may have to announce a
closure before July 23 if the 16,000 sturgeon catch quota is reached.
The area between Wauna Powerlines and Beacon Rock is open to sturgeon
retention Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays through July 31. Catch and
release fishing is allowed four days a week.
More information on the sturgeon angling rules may be found on the ODFW
