Retention of sturgeon in Columbia River estuary ends Saturday

SALEM - Sportfishing for sturgeon in the Columbia River below the Wauna
powerlines will end at 11:59 p.m. Saturday, July 3, when anglers are
projected to reach the season's catch guideline of 15,000 white
sturgeon, the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife announced today.

Catch-and-release sturgeon angling may continue below Wauna for the
remainder of the year.

The current angling regulations for the lower Columbia River are as
follows:

In the mainstem Columbia River from the mouth at Buoy 10 upstream to
the Wauna powerlines at River Mile 40, including Youngs Bay; and all
adjacent Washington tributaries:

* Sturgeon retention is allowed seven days per week through Saturday,
July 3, 2004.

* The size limit for retained sturgeon is 45-60 inches.

No changes will take place in the ongoing fishery above the Wauna
powerlines to Bonneville Dam.
