Upcoming outdoor skill workshops for women scheduled in June

SALEM - The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife will offer several
workshops taking place in June to teach clamming, camp cooking, fishing
and other outdoor skills as part of the Becoming an Outdoors-Woman (BOW)
program

"There are some great opportunities that we want to let folks know
about," said Nancy Smogor, outdoor skills coordinator for ODFW's
High Desert Region.

On June 5, a beginner clamming workshop will be offered in the
Tillamook area. The $60 registration fee covers instruction, meals,
equipment, resource materials and boat transportation around the bay
where the clamming will take place. Workshop instruction will cover how
to identify clams, as well as how to clean and prepare them.

Also on June 5, a Camp Cookin' workshop will be held at Emigrant
Springs State Park near Pendleton. This event will cover all aspects of
cooking in the outdoors including Dutch oven techniques and cardboard
box ovens.

"Emigrant Springs State Park is very excited to be hosting this event
and wants to invite everyone to attend what should be a great
weekend," Smogor said.

June 12-13, in conjunction with Free Fishing weekend, a basic BOW
workshop will be held at La Pine State Park. More than 12 activities
will be offered including outdoor cooking, canoeing, fly fishing and
outdoor survival. No fishing license will be required for the fishing
classes because it is Free Fishing Weekend.

Additional information on the Becoming an Outdoors-Woman program and
any of these events can be found on ODFW's Web site at
