Members sought for Hatchery Research Center Advisory Committee



SALEM - The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife and Oregon State
University today announced they are seeking nominations for a committee
to advise the senior scientist directing the Hatchery Research Center
near Alsea, scheduled to open in July.

 

The HRC Advisory Committee will represent diverse interests and provide
input on activities and functions related to HRC operation and
maintenance. Fifteen members will represent the following interests:


            Federal government (one)                     Resource users:
agriculture, timber, gravel (one)

            Local government (one)                        Watershed
councils (one)

            Conservation (one)                               Education,
K-12 (one)

            Sport fishing (one)
Public-at-large (two)

            Commercial fishing (one)
Science-at-large (four)

            Tribal (one)


The deadline for submitting nominations is April 15. Groups or
organizations should submit the nominee's name, address, phone number
and e-mail address to Charlie Corrarino at

calling 503-947-6213. ODFW and OSU representatives will finalize the HRC
Advisory Committee membership by the end of April. The first Advisory
Committee meeting is tentatively scheduled May 18 at ODFW headquarters
in Salem.

 

The HRC is a state-of-the-art research facility located 40 miles west of
Corvallis. Its mission is to understand mechanisms that may create
differences between hatchery and wild salmon and steelhead, develop
approaches to best manage any differences to meet fishery and
conservation objectives, and help Oregonians understand hatcheries' role
and performance in responsibly using and protecting Oregon's native
fish.
