Deadline approaching to buy big game raffle hunt tickets
Proceeds benefit hunter access and wildlife habitat projects
 
SALEM - State wildlife officials today reminded hunters the deadline is
fast approaching to purchase Access and Habitat Program deer and elk
raffle hunt tickets, as well as tickets for special bighorn sheep,
pronghorn and Rocky Mountain goat raffle hunts. 
 
Raffle winners are allowed to hunt expanded hunt areas for longer
seasons. Deer and elk raffle winners, for example, get a three-month
hunt for elk and/or deer in an expanded hunting season.
 
The program allows hunters to experience special hunting opportunities
while helping improve wildlife habitat and hunting access. Funds raised
through the A&H raffle are distributed through grants to individual and
corporate landowners, conservation organizations and others to
cooperatively fund wildlife habitat improvement and hunter access
projects throughout Oregon. Bighorn sheep, pronghorn and Rocky Mountain
goat raffle tickets fund similar conservation work for those species. 
 
The point-of-sale deadline for purchasing tickets is May 25, 2005. The
deadline for purchasing tickets directly through ODFW's Salem
headquarters is May 20. Order forms are available from point-of-sale
agents, in the 2005 big game regulations booklet or by calling (503)
947-6100.
 
Purchased tickets must be filled out and returned to ODFW to be
officially entered in the drawing. Tickets purchased by mail order must
be postmarked no later than May 28 or hand-delivered to ODFW
headquarters in Salem by 5 p.m., June 2. Raffle tickets also may be
purchased at and or/hand-delivered to the drawing location June 4.
 
The winning tickets will be drawn at the 22nd Annual Oregon Hunters
Association State Convention, to be held in Seaside June 4.
 
The A&H raffle hunts offered for 2005 include Statewide Deer, Northeast
Oregon Deer, Southeast Oregon Deer, Central Oregon Deer, Northeast
Oregon Elk, High Desert Elk, Western Oregon Elk, Statewide Elk, and a
Statewide Combination Deer and Elk hunt. Raffle tags for bighorn sheep,
pronghorn and Rocky Mountain goats also are available. The hunting
seasons are as follows:
 
Deer and elk:    Sept. 1 - Nov. 30 
Bighorn sheep:   Aug. 13 - Nov. 8
Pronghorn:    Aug. 1 - Sept. 30
Rocky Mountain goats:  Sept. 1 - Oct. 31
 
Deer and elk raffle winners may harvest a deer and/or elk with general
or controlled season tags during authorized seasons, in addition to
filling their raffle tag.
 
Ticket prices for deer hunts are $4 for one ticket, $11 for six, $21 for
15, $51 for 40 and $101 for 100. 
Elk raffle tickets are $6 for one, $21 for six, $41 for 15 and $101 for
40. 
Combination Deer and Elk Hunt tickets are one for $11, six for $31, 15
for $61 and 40 for $151.
 
Packages of up to 15 tickets may be purchased at any ODFW point-of-sale
license vendor throughout the state. Packages of 40 and 100 tickets must
be purchased by mail or fax through ODFW's Salem office, 3406 Cherry
Ave. NE, Salem, OR  97303-4924. The fax numbers are (503) 947-6117 or
6113.
 
Tickets for bighorn sheep, pronghorn and Rocky Mountain goats are $11
each, six for $51, or 13 for $101.
