Trout stocked for Foster Lake youth fishing event

SWEET HOME - Young people interested in learning to fish will find a
great opportunity May 14, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Sunnyside park on
Foster Lake.

The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife will stock more than 800
rainbow trout, including 50 "trophy" trout (2 lb. fish) for the event as
part of the Youth Angling enhancement Program. The trout come from Clear
Creek Rainbow Ranch in Oregon City.

ODFW also supplies rods and reels for use by young anglers who do not
have their own fishing equipment. Volunteers will be on hand to assist
young anglers in learning to fish, and to help clean and even cook their
catch, if desired.

The program is made possible through a $50,000 appropriation from the
Oregon Legislature and a partnership with the Oregon Wildlife Heritage
Foundation, which has pledged an additional $50,000 and is working with
ODFW to develop and promote youth fishing opportunities throughout the
state.

Anglers under the age of 14 can fish for free. A juvenile license is
required for anglers 14-17 years of age. All Oregon fishing regulations
continue to apply.

This event is operated in conjunction with the Albany Chapter,
Association of Northwest Steelheaders and Linn County.
