Fish and Wildlife Commission to meet in Prineville
SALEM - The Oregon Fish and Wildlife Commission will meet May 18 in
Prineville to review and discuss 2005 big game hunting regulation, the
state's draft conservation assessment for Greater Sage Grouse, and the
status of Oregon's Native Fish Conservation Plan.
The Commission is the policy making body for fish and wildlife issues in
the state. The seven-member panel meets monthly.
Friday's meeting will be held at the Crook County Library's Broughton
Room, 175 NW Meadow Lakes Drive. Other topics on the meeting agenda
include:
* A briefing on the Miller Lake Lamprey conservation plan, in
preparation for rulemaking in June.
* An update on the status of the Comprehensive Wildlife Conservation
Strategy ODFW is preparing to meet requirements of the U.S. Fish and
Wildlife Service's State Wildlife Grant Program.
Prior to Friday's business meeting, the commission will tour several
sites in the area Thursday, May 12. The public is welcome to attend any
portion of the all-day tour, using personal transportation. The tour
group departs the Best Western Prineville Inn at 8 a.m. Stops and topics
include:
* Mill Creek - To observe and discuss public-private partnership issues
for fish and wildlife management on private lands.
* Upper North Fork Crooked River, Ochoco National Forest - to discuss
public land grazing and its impact on fish habitat, the Big Game Access
Management program, and elk distribution in the area.
* Prineville - For a review of the Ochoco Irrigation District fish
screen program.
Following the tour, the Commission and ODFW staff will host a public
reception at 7 p.m. Thursday, at the Crook County Library.

Public testimony is invited. Sign-up sheets will be available in the
hallway outside the meeting room the day of the meeting for persons who
want to testify on scheduled agenda items. Persons seeking to testify on
issues not on the formal agenda may do so by making arrangements with
the ODFW Director's Office at least 24 hours in advance by calling
800-720-6339 or 503-947-6044.
All non-agenda testimony, also called "unscheduled testimony," begins at
1 p.m. and is limited to about six speakers for up to five minutes each.
Reasonable accommodations will be provided as needed for individuals
requesting assistive hearing devices, sign language interpreters or
large-print materials. Individuals needing these types of accommodations
may call the ODFW Director's Office at 800-720-6339 or 503-947-6044 at
least 24 hours in advance of the meeting.
