Trout stocked for youth fishing event at Junction City Pond

JUNCTION CITY - Young people interested in learning to fish will find a
great opportunity May 14, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Junction City Pond.
The pond is located on the west side of Highway 99, about 3 miles south
of Junction City.

The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife will stock more than 1,500
rainbow trout, including 100 "trophy" trout (2 lb. fish) for the event
as part of the Youth Angling Enhancement Program. The trout will be
coming from Clear Creek Rainbow Ranch in Oregon City. Planned activities
include a youth fishing derby sponsored by the Junction City Moose
Lodge. This is the 25th year that the Lodge has held a derby at this
location.

The program is made possible through a $50,000 appropriation from the
Oregon Legislature and a partnership with the Oregon Wildlife Heritage
Foundation, which has pledged an additional $50,000 and is working with
ODFW to develop and promote youth fishing opportunities throughout the
state.

Under Oregon Sport Fishing Regulations, anglers under the age of 14 can
fish for free. A juvenile license is required for anglers 14-17 years of
age.
