Youth Fishing Event at Horsecamp Pond

PENDLETON - The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife today announced a
June 5th Youth Fishing Event at Horsecamp Pond along the Umatilla
National Forest Summit Road, near Tollgate.

ODFW will stock 600 rainbow trout for the youth fishing event, which is
sponsored by local anglers from Milton-Freewater. The event, which
begins at 9 a.m., is intended for kids 12 and under who are learning how
to fish.

"This is a great opportunity for the family to take a day trip to Blue
Mountains and enjoy a fun day of fishing," said Umatilla District Fish
Biologist Tim Bailey. "We're stocking trout late this week to increase
the catch rate for participating kids. After the event, the trout will
be available in the pond for both kids and the general public to catch."

ODFW and local anglers will be on hand Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. to
help kids bait hooks and learn to fish. Loaner fishing equipment and
bait are available. Hot dogs and refreshments will be available for the
kids. The Pond is located on the 287 spur of USFS Road 31 (the Summit
Road) approximately three miles south of Highway 204. Sings will be
posted to help guide anglers to the pond.

The trout purchase was jointly funded by the Oregon Wildlife Heritage
Foundation and ODFW's Youth Angling Enhancement Program.
