Access and Habitat Program seeks two council members
ROSEBURG - Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife officials today
announced openings for one hunter representative and one landowner
representative on the Access and Habitat Southwest Regional Advisory
Council.
The Access and Habitat Program was created by the 1993 Oregon
Legislature to form partnerships with private landowners to improve
wildlife habitat and increase hunting access on private lands through
grants for projects which accomplish these goals.
The program is funded by a $2 surcharge on hunting license fees and a
raffle and auction of 20 elk and deer tags. It receives about $1.6
million in revenues biennially.
The Access and Habitat Regional Advisory Council is composed of seven
citizen volunteers - three landowner representatives, three hunter
representatives and one public-at-large representative - who review and
recommend wildlife habitat improvement and hunter access projects for
funding to the State Access and Habitat Board. Council members, who are
appointed to four-year terms by the Access and Habitat Board, meet three
or four times each year to review project funding applications, hear
public testimony and act as liaisons between the program and the public.
Residents of Coos, Curry, Douglas, Josephine, and Jackson Counties with
interest and experience in hunting, forestry, farming, ranching and/or
wildlife conservation are encouraged to apply. Applications are due no
later than Dec. 15.
To request an application and instructions for applying, contact Access
and Habitat Regional Program coordinator Vince Oredson (541) 826-8774 or
