Governor's Agreement on Ocean Health

________________________________

On July 19, 2010, President Obama announced his commitment to
implementing the first National Policy for the Stewardship of the Ocean,
Our Coasts, and the Great Lakes. The National Ocean Council is now
developing Strategic Action Plans to achieve nine national priority
objectives that address some of the most pressing ocean, coasts and
Great Lakes challenges.

The nine national priority objectives are:

*	Ecosystem-based management
*	Coastal and marine spatial planning
*	Inform decisions and improve understanding
*	Better coordinate and support Federal, State, tribal, and local
and regional management
*	Resiliency and adaptation to climate change and ocean
acidification
*	Regional ecosystem protection and restoration
*	Water quality and sustainable practices on land
*	Changing conditions in the Arctic
*	Ocean, coastal, and Great Lakes observations, mapping, and
infrastructure

The National Ocean Council seeks input and comments on the draft
Strategic Action Plan outlines for these priority objectives. These
outlines are posted on the National Ocean Council website:
http://www.whitehouse.gov/administration/eop/oceans/sap

On behalf of the Council for Environmental Quality (CEQ) in the
Executive Office of the President of the United States, you are invited
to attend any of the regional listening sessions scheduled for the West
Coast. The date, time, and locations for the three West Coast listening
sessions are as follows:

*	Monday, June 27, 2011:  8:30 am -5:00 pm.  Quinault Beach Resort
and Casino, Ocean Shores, WA

*	Thursday, June 30, 2011:  1:00 pm - 5:00 pm.  Hilton Union

University, Portland, OR
<http://www.whitehouse.gov/sites/default/files/microsites/ceq/portland_r
ls_agenda.final_.pdf>

At each West Coast listening session there will be an opportunity for
comment on the draft outlines, with a dedicated area or breakout room to
discuss questions and comments. The meetings are designed so
participants can provide comments on more than one strategic plan
outline if they choose.

If you are interested in attending any of the regional listening
sessions for the West Coast, you are encouraged to pre-register by
visiting:  http://www.nwfsc.noaa.gov/registration/west_coast_sap.cfm.
The pre-registration deadlines are: June 22nd for Ocean Shores, June
24th for San Francisco, and June 27th for Portland.

You may also submit written comments directly to the National Ocean
Council website: http://www.whitehouse.gov/administration/eop/oceans.
The comment period will close on July 2nd.

Thank you for your interest and participation in shaping the Strategic
Action Plans for the first National Policy for the Stewardship of the
Ocean, Our Coasts, and the Great Lakes.
