2011 Geo-Hydro Brown Bag

On behalf of the Region 1 ACEC/ODOT steering committee, we welcome your
attendance to the June 2011 Geo-Hydro Brown Bag. Please open the flyer

The topic for this discipline will be "Addressing Variable Rock
Conditions during Design and Preparation of Construction Documents to
Minimize Construction Problems". Presenters, Dwight Hardin, CE/GE and
Scott Schlechter, CE/GE of GRI, and Susan Ortiz, ODOT - Geotechnical
Engineer will focus on the following topics: 
*	*site characterization; 
*	*a bridge foundation design that can accommodate variable rock
conditions; 
*	*provisions that can be incorporated in contract documents to
address rock variability; 
*	*the importance of having the geotechnical engineer or
engineering geologist onsite an adequate amount of time during
construction; and 
*	* and the importance of good documentation of site conditions
exposed during construction. 
*	They will also spend a few minutes discussing boulders.
