From Jennifer.MAURER at slo.oregon.gov Thu Jan 19 17:37:11 2023 From: Jennifer.MAURER at slo.oregon.gov (MAURER Jennifer L * SLO) Date: Fri, 20 Jan 2023 01:37:11 +0000 Subject: [OLA-IF-News] Article about Training Required of FL School Librarians Message-ID: ?in response to new anti-intellectual freedom laws in the state is a detailed read. I thought some of you might be interested in the information shared in the Education Week article. So much jumped out at me, including this statement near the end. I have so many questions: ?The responsibility of the content of instructional materials lies with those that choose the materials,? according to the training. ?Parents that are challenging or objecting to materials should not have to prove that those materials are objectionable.? With other states passing or having passed similar legislation, I suspect that this will exacerbate the teacher shortage, especially since one of the reasons often cited for leaving the profession is not feeling respected.
