Hatch Business Incubator Open for Business

 It was a lovely evening during May's Second Friday Art Walk. So much buzz was taking place on the streets in Downtown Springfield, including the grand opening and ribbon cutting of the three newest businesses to join the community through Hatch <http://nedcocdc.us2.list-manage.com/track/click?u=97064185c3767198d5317cdaa&id=e9e583a526&e=3e3e45248f> . A crowd was on hand filled community members and those wanting to learn more about this amazing opportunity for downtown. 
Congrats to the new businesses and thanks to all of the supporters that have helped to make this project happen! Stop by 216 Main to visit the new businesses and find out how your small business can be a part!

Thanks to our amazing Main Street committee members!
Our Main Street committee members have been busy. Downtown Springfield is seeing incremental change thanks to their continuing committment.
Here's a brief summary of what they've been up to:
Organization 

*	Fundraising plan based on other committee budgets and work plans
*	Finalizing a mission statement for the program
*	Recruiting new volunteers

Design 

*	Successful tree trimming with help from Springfield Public Works
*	Working to establish a facade improvement program
*	Partnering with DesignSpring, a young architect group, to conduct a charrette for the facade program in downtown
*	Putting together design guideline recommendations to be included in the City's new Downtown Plan District code

Promotion 

*	Developing a new logo for Downtown Springfield that incorporates the rich history and looks to the future
*	Will be overseeing management of the Second Friday Art Walk soon
*	Creating a series of marketing videos featuring local downtown businesses

Economic Restructuring 

*	Finalizing a thorough downtown inventory
*	Will be used to know exactly what is available downtown and to recruit new and desired business to downtown

Marketing and Finance Classes being Offered for Small Business Owners
As part of the new Hatch Business incubator,  <http://gallery.mailchimp.com/97064185c3767198d5317cdaa/images/eDev_Logo.1.JPG> a series of classes is being offered for local small business owners. In partnership with eDev <http://nedcocdc.us2.list-manage.com/track/click?u=97064185c3767198d5317cdaa&id=7a66e922f8&e=3e3e45248f> , two four week series are taking place:
May 26-June 2, June 16-23 - Sales and Marketing Series
Develop an "internet strategy" and progress toward web marketing.
June 23-July 14 - Financial Series
Learn skills for basic recordkeeping and developing financial statements.
The classes take place every Thursday evening at Hatch (216 Main St) from 6-8pm
The classes are FREE for Springfield residents who income qualify ($30 per series otherwise), and registration is required before each series.

Congrats to the Washburne Cafe on 1 Year Downtown!
A huge congratulations goes  <http://www.thewashburnecafe.com/images/store3.jpg> out to Karen Hageman and the Washburne Cafe <http://nedcocdc.us2.list-manage.com/track/click?u=97064185c3767198d5317cdaa&id=f54bbba5ec&e=3e3e45248f>  on their one year anniversary this past month. Karen has been a major supporter for the Downtown Springfield community, offering her cafe as a place for the Main Street committees, and her time for serving on those committees and beyond. A special congrats goes to Karen and all of her staff for believing in the Downtown Springfield community and your efforts to help make it a better place!
