Subject: [OMS_MANAGERS] Spring Oregon Main Street Workshop

Hello,

We are very excited about our spring Oregon Main Street Network Workshop (see attached flyer). We have two excellent speakers lined up to talk about economic development. The workshop will be Friday, April 22, 8 a.m. to noon, Harbortown Events Center, 325 2nd Street, Bandon, Oregon. This is a wonderful small, coastal community that I know you will really enjoy - in fact, they were listed as one of 2010 Budget Travel’s List of America’s Top 10 Coolest Small Towns. Thank you to our hosts, Greater Bandon by the Sea Association. The workshop is free to participants from Oregon Main Street communities. Additonal information on the workshop and hotel information is below. To register, please go to:

Workshop Information:
The first session is "Creating a Culture of Entrepreneurship" by Maury Forman, Senior Manager for Rural Initiatives with the Washington State Department of Commerce's Innovations and Policy Division. Entrepreneurship is considered to be the single biggest driver of job creation in both rural and urban communities, encouraging innovative capabilities of small enterprises and offering an economic diversification strategy. Communities that understand the role of economic development will have a better chance of success in growing their business ventures and creating an entrepreneurial environment . This session will show how to recognize economic development that will support entrepreneurs and small businesses.

The second session, "It Takes A Village to Create a Successful Economic Structure in Our Downtown," is with Dennie Houle, Business Development Officer for Business Oregon. Downtowns are fertile grounds for growing jobs with much of the infrastructure already in place to support job creating businesses. there are many economic development groups, agencies, and organizations that have wealth creation as a main mission. So why is it so hard to bring in these partners when Main Street programs state to work on business development or economic restructuring projects? Bring your success and failure stories as we delve into the economic development world and examine tools of the trade. This will be interactive and will be based on the premise that we are the village and the techniques and solutions to keeping our downtowns thriving are already in the room!

Hotel Suggestions:

Bandon Inn
355 Highway 101
Bandon 97411
541-347-4417

Inn at Face Rock Resort (Best Western)
3225 Beach Loop Drive
Bandon 97411
541-347-9441

The first site is much closer to Old Town, overlooking Old Town with a view of the Boat Basin. The second is a bit more economical as a Best Western might be expected to be, is about 2-3 miles away from Old Town but has access to the Beach and has a 9 hole golf course next door.
