The Nonprofit Clinic at the University of Oregon is offering free tailored governance assessments of nonprofit boards.

What can your nonprofit organization expect from the Nonprofit Clinic's free governance assessment? After diving in to your organization's dynamics by studying documents and conducting
interviews, the students will provide:


*         A written report identifying your current lifestage and challenges, and suggesting steps to move your organization forward

*         A resource guide to help with implementation of suggested actions

*         A tailored assessment including recommendations for compliance with best practices in the following areas:

o   Board governance

o   Board-Staff dynamics

o   Fiscal controls, policies, and procedures

o   Conflict management

o   Bylaws & compliance

o   Board orientation process and board member manual


How much time will be required of the board and executive director? You are requested to provide documents, such as the annual report, articles of incorporation, and financial statement. The board and executive staff must also complete an online questionnaire. The ED and Board of Directors meet twice with a clinic team during the semester. The meetings last two hours and are scheduled about four weeks apart.

How can your organization participate in the clinic? Applications are accepted on a rolling basis for February and March start dates. Twelve nonprofit organizations will be selected to participate.
Eligibility:

*         An Oregon-based public benefit nonprofit corporation that is non-religious and not a charter school

*         At least 2 years in operation (not a startup)

*         Annual operational budget between $50,000 and $2 million

*         Willingness to work with students and consultants in a shared learning environment
