This is it - Take 5 minutes to email your legislators today!
We're in the final rounds of a prize fight for preservation and economic development! With just two weeks left in the session, State legislators need to be reminded that MAIN STREET MATTERS<https://youtu.be/nQON1QoiAsM> and it's time to PASS the REVITALIZE MAIN STREET ACT/SB 565<http://cts.vresp.com/c/?RestoreOregon/f6a586e23e/5cc67fdce6/2d54b9e430/utm_content=deniseb%40restoreoregon.org&utm_source=VerticalResponse&utm_medium=Email&utm_term=PASS%20the%20REVITALIZE%20MAIN%20STREET%20ACT%2FSB%20565&utm_campaign=It%27s%20time%20to%20fight%21>.
As an editorial endorsement in the East Oregonian states, "in rural Oregon, preservation is about survival" and communities are "fighting tooth and nail to hold onto our young people, our jobs, and our buildings."
The Revitalize Main Street Act is a modest investment with a big return in the form of new jobs, economic vitality, cultural heritage, and seismic safety for communities from Astoria to Enterprise, Portland to Klamath Falls. Yet we face stiff competition for funding.
Help us cross the finish line! Contact your state Senator and Representative<http://cts.vresp.com/c/?RestoreOregon/f6a586e23e/5cc67fdce6/601df5292e> to tell them to support SB 565. A couple of key points to make in an email include:
* Our economic impact study projects a 4-fold increase in historic rehabilitation projects and SB 565 will pay for itself by creating new JOBS, attracting new BUSINESSES, and generating more PROPERTY TAX REVENUES to pay for schools and services.
* 35 states have similar incentives and have proven they're a profitable state investment in economic development for communities large and small.
* SB 565 is endorsed by 35 Oregon mayors/city councils, 31 downtown business associations, 36 organizations ranging from 1000 Friends of Oregon to the Oregon Economic Development Association, and State Treasurer Ted Wheeler.
The Revitalize Main Street Act has also received editorial endorsements from newspapers around the state, including the East Oregonian<http://cts.vresp.com/c/?RestoreOregon/f6a586e23e/5cc67fdce6/22b161ff13>, Medford Mail Tribune<http://cts.vresp.com/c/?RestoreOregon/f6a586e23e/5cc67fdce6/9ee50d3bd1>, Statesman Journal<http://cts.vresp.com/c/?RestoreOregon/f6a586e23e/5cc67fdce6/eff707adb7>, Daily Astorian<http://cts.vresp.com/c/?RestoreOregon/f6a586e23e/5cc67fdce6/07dcaadc38>, with more expected. And our Oregonian OpEd<http://cts.vresp.com/c/?RestoreOregon/f6a586e23e/5cc67fdce6/b3006e3efe> speaks for itself.
Even if you've already contacted them before, please email your State Representative and State Senator NOW<http://cts.vresp.com/c/?RestoreOregon/f6a586e23e/5cc67fdce6/a391f7efc3> - and pass this along to friends and colleagues. It will make all the difference.
THANK YOU!
The Revitalize Main Street Act creates a Historic Rehabilitation Fund to provide a 25% rebate for the rehabilitation of historic commercial buildings - stores, hotels, theaters, apartments, factories, mills, etc. - creating jobs, attracting businesses, and preserving the places that make Oregon, OREGON.
