Dear Rooters,
Our wonderful volunteers have been busy little elves of late. We have update the searchable web index http://genealogy.state.or.us to include the following items
Clatsop County Marriages, 1852-1910 (3,478 entries)
Clatsop County Naturalizations Declaration of Intentions, 1852-1939 (2,981 entries)
Oregon Soldier Home Applications and Histories, 1894-1933, (3,919 entries)
Some background on the Soldier's Home, this facility was located in Roseburg Oregon and provided care for veteran's in their old age. Veteran's had to apply to become a resident, and the applications and history provide information such as their county of residence, date of birth, nativity, war and military unit they served with. These records include information on 307 Indian War veterans and 2,380 Civil War veterans.
You can see a more complete description of these records in the Military Department finding aid on our website at:
http://arcweb.sos.state.or.us/state/mil/milhome.htm
You can contact the reference Unit here at the Archives if you would like to request copies of any of the records you may find in the index.
