Yes, David. There are places.

In addition to Leslie's great list, going up the Columbia River Gorge,
eastward of Portland, is the view from the Vista House (as seen in a
national TV ad for some car a while back), Multnomah Falls (spectacular
if you are a flatlander), and Boneville Dam with its fish hatchery and
sturgeon display. And a bit further upriver, by The Dalles, the
windsurfers put on quite a show if the weather is cooperating. Take the
Mt Hood Loop on the way back for a spectacular drive around Mt Hood --
stop at Timberline Lodge to visit a most impressive CCC project.

In Oregon City, there is the McLoughlin House and all that stuff with
the early Oregon History, and the End of the Oregon Trail Interpretive
Center with its program and unusual architecture (3 huge simulated
covered wagons). Late July -- maybe fish for shad at Clackamette Park.

And just south of Silverton, if you are into gardens, is the new Oregon
Gardens complete with a relocated Frank Lloys Wright home.

Fish and chips at the Elephant & Castle, SW 2nd & Morrison, downtown.

Onion rings (& steak) at the Ringside, 24th? & Burnside.

There is more if you have the time -- heck, you did say you were staying
for a month, didn't you?

Bill
