Unfortunately the Reedsport Library does NOT have anything on the local newspaper, you will need to try and get this information from the University of Oregon Archives as they have SOME of the local paper in their filmed archives. I do not know exactly what dates they have, the paper went bankrupt this year and the IRS attached all of its assest, between the closing of the doors and the IRS auction someone made off with most of their archived information from before the 1950's.

I can try to find out about a coroners inquest from the Douglas Co courthouse if I can remember to do so next time I am there.

One question I would have is was this Hedden related to Cyrus Hedden of Scottsburg history? If so I can probably get additional information from his granddaughter who is in our Genealogy group.

By the way I am coming in in the middle of this thread and am unsure who asked the original question?

    Hi,

I have been able to order microfilm copies of out of state newspapers as well as those in Oregon beside the Oregonian from the county library. (Multnomah County Library has a complete set of the Oregonian at its main branch) I just ask the Librarian for help. It usually takes a couple of weeks and then I usually have those microfilm newspapers for a couple of week to view. And it is a lot easier then going to or contacting a local towns library.

    Happy Hunting

    Hi Judy,
<<Fannie Henderer Hedden Husband John Fannie killed in car wreck - car went into the Umpqua River near Reedsport we think the date is April 1933. Can someone confirm death date, and any other pertinent information? Would There have been a coroner's inquest? Newspaper article?>>

The Oregon Death Index shows the death date of Fanny Hedden as 01 October 1933 in Douglas County. There may or may not have been a Coroner's Inquest depending on the circumstances. You will need to contact the County Clerk of Douglas County to find that out.

There was probably a newspaper article, most likely in the Reedsport paper. The Reedsport Public Library surely has the paper on microfilm for that time period and would, for a small fee send you a copy of the article.
