at the time of your grandmother's birth"Lamonta was a community which was in 
old Crook County, now Jefferson County, just west of Grizzly Mountain.  The 
community of Lamonta wasonce a thriving place with a hotel, Post Office, 
general store, blacksmithshop, several saloons and dance halls.  The 
community became a ghost town during the depression and the governemnt 
declared it a drought area and in 1934 purchased most of the marginal land in 
the area and tore down the buildings.  The term Lamonta is a French word for 
mountain.  The first P.O. was established in 1890 and named Desert, but was 
called Lamontain 1896.  The post office closed in April 1918." source;
