I believe Robideaux is a historical name in Oregon history, unfortunately I
am unable to locate him online;
Oregon archives list only one;
Name Year Record Type County Source Number
Robideaux, Lloyd E 07-31-1901 Delayed Birth Deschutes Health 154/8168

In summary, the Robidoux clan played a very important and colorful role in
westward migration history, and Joseph III, the founder of Saint Joseph, was
the dynamo behind their far-flung enterprise. Scenes at famous Robidoux
Pass which enlivened the pages of countless overland diaries, and the
caravans heading east with buffalo hides - sometimes accompanied by Indian
travois columns, the whole gypsy-like circus panicking the emigrant oxen -
are vivid images of a unique family of frontiersmen, based in Saint Joseph.
They bridged the eras of fur trade and exploration and the great migrations
which completed the conquest of a continent.

That he was involved in this nexus of trade during the 1840's is evidenced
by the fact that his grand-daughter of his son Franklin, Mary J. Robidoux,
married the son of James Beauvais, and they managed the old California
Crossing Ranch in Nebraska.
I also ran into a Robideaux in a genealogy site written in French, imagine
that!
For all it seems an unusual name, it has been in the news a bit there is one
involved in Native American rights activities, also specifically a Robideaux
who came to Oregon involved in some kind of crimianl activity that
apparently was fairly notorious a few years back and lots of Law firms, car
dealerships, athletes etc by that surname. 3800 hits altogether on Google.

But why does that Robideaux name sound so familiar, and why can't I
place it?
