There are a number of folks on the list looking for Browns, don't imagine
this is one of them, but it is a good enough hook to justify my posting it
anyway. This site has a lot of interesting tidbits of late nineteenth
century N. Cal, S. Oregon stuff; unfortunately most of it is kind of
negative, though occasionally not.

SIX KILLED

A few days ago a dinner was prepared at Coquille City, Oregon at a reception
tendered to Mrs. Oscar G. Brown, of Ferndale, & the result of the feast was
the death of six people. The chickens prepared for the dinner were cooked in
a tin vessel, in which they stood overnight, & when served the following day
proved to be poisoned. Mrs. Brown herself was unconscious for ten hours, but
her many friends here will be pleased to learn that in a couple of days she
was out of danger & is now fully recovered. It is a sad ending to what was
destined to be a happy social event.
