[or-roots] early horse racing

Does anyone have information on the early horse racing in Salem?

There is a family story from a granddaughter that "grandpa" raced horses when they started horse racing  in Salem.  I don't know that he actually did the racing but had horses, I know.

This would probably have been around 1850 or shortly thereafter.
