iS ANYONE FAMILIAR WITH the Gibbs or Counts family. They lived in southern Oregon. Or Moreland and Reed families. The Reeds were in lumber and farming.

  Patty;

  You aren't real clear on what you are asking for, first it seems you are unfamiliar with the concept of "lists" if that is the case I will try to give a concise (pause for groan from rest of list) explanation of what a "list" is about, and then since you haven't mentioned whether you have said info will throw some census info at you.

  LISTS; by joining this list you have joined with a group of folks who have signed on to receive a copy of everything anybody else sends in (there is digest form for those who find the occasional mailing blitz cumbersome, the disadvantage is when html format mail such as this comes through it is awkward). In theory the topic of this list is OREGON genealogy and history. Our list mom is pretty tolerant (ie extended discussion of 20th century weather at Christmas time) but the idea is to stick to topic. Your submission is quite valid. Ideally to get best results you should give what you know, what you want and the one thing a lot of us are guilty of forgetting; put your email addy in body of query. Subject line relavent to query is helpfull.

  Remember, the more we know, the better we can help you, what a lot of folks tend to do is send queries like: I want to know about the Jones family. That doesn't tell us much and will probably be ignored. Your query could have been better with some dates, but the fact it includes place names makes it better by far than "Jones"; I have 33 folks in my family tree by the name Jones, but if someone asked me for info on that surname odds are about 100,000 to one it wouldn't be someone in MY family, so just asking for "Jones" would tend to make me not want to bother.

  Sometimes we be a little crotchety, sometime folks will come on with well presented good queries and nobody will answer. We may all be busy elsewhere, we may encounter the same problem that cause the querier to turn to us in the first place; we can't find an answer either or maybe the mood just doesn't strike us. We help out for two reasons, one a lot of us like solving puzzles and are willing to spend our time helping a total stranger and the other reason is to build "Karma" points. Most folks probably wouldn't express it that way, but most folks here are basically nice folks that like to be helpful, which is a very reciprocal kind of thing, if you like to help folks, I can almost guarantee there will be peeps who will want to help you and sooner or later if you stay here long someone will ask a question you can answer. And, as I always have to point out "I" almost never go to look for something for someone else without finding something that helps me.

  Help! I don't really understand how all this works but I am trying to find out the when and why of George and Sarah Shirts emigration to Oregon from Indiana. Their last child Flora Shirts was born near Portland but I can find no info on this. There is the possibility that they were missionaries. Does anyone know anything about them? Thanks.
