I say Amen to this. And the rudeness may have come from a physical problem, but there was no way for anyone of us to know that.

Okay...this started with a flurry of e-mails from the same address all demanding that the list cease sending e-mail to that address and stating that the incoming e-mail had been blocked.. A number of list subscribers responded with information on how to unsubscribe. This apparently enraged the individual, who continued to flood our inboxes with responses that were childish in their rudeness. The writer engaged in name calling and taunts. Such actions are considered to be spamming and flaming...either are usually enough to get you bounced off lists. ISP's will close the accounts of individuals who behave this way. The response from the list members was pretty restrained and mostly laced with humor. After the initial attempts to help resolve the subscription issue were met with such unwarranted rudeness, the unspoken consensus of the group seemed to be to ignore him. But the flood of rude e-mails continued, finally culminating in the five sent by Shirlee Johnson.

If these e-mails actually came from a man who died of an aneurysm, that may explain the nature of his actions and his inappropriate hostility toward this group. Decreased blood supply to the brain or pressure from a ballooning artery might be responsible for irrational behavior.

This doesn't explain the irrational behavior of the few members of this list who have now decided to castigate everyone on the list. They can't have been paying attention to this issue from the beginning or they would know that the harassment came from the intruder, not from the list members. I have little patience with the sanctimonious drivel of "nancydean" and now "madrake"; particularly since it is so far off the mark.
