The Cox families I know of came out of North
Carolina in early 1800's. One group settled in
the Minn. Territory.

My ancestors came to Silverton in 1842 I believe, and participated in the land shares at that time. There were brothers who setteled by the last name of Cox. My great great great grandfather was Gideon Cox.

  Therese,

You might be interested in this from The Gerking Family in America, compiled for the Gerking Family Reunion Group by Florence Bowe. This is from a section titled "Bethany Christian Church."

"The Cox families at one time owned all the land from Silverton through Bethany across Silver Creek and Pudding River to the Prairie. They had come to Oregon with the Immigration of 1846. These are the ones who are listed as being a part of the organization of the Bethany Church.
       "1. Peter and Isabelle Cox
       "2. Gideon and Susannah Cox
"3. Elias and Lucia (Tucker) Cox
       "4. Samuel and Harriet Cox
"5. Wilburn and Marcilla (Cox) King
"6. Joshua and Elizabeth (Cox) Bowen
"7. Peter and Permelia (Cox) Bowen
       "8. Jane (Cox) Shaw
"9. Thomas and Josephine (Headrick) Shaw
      "10. Isaac and Margaret Headrick
"11. George and Juliann (Eisenhardt) Woolen
"12. C. Frederick and Sarah (Eisenhardt) Mascher"

I hope this helps and leave it to you to decide which year of immigration is correct.<g>

  Best wishes,
  Beth Johnston
