be very careful with these conversations.  lockley was not particularly interested in facts but in a good story.  my gr. grandmother's brother, benjamin franklin bonney, gave his somewhat trumped up version on their crossing to calif. and then on to oregon in 1845 and very little of it is true.  just a word of caution.
