Okay, I downloaded the latest virus definitions, purged my system of all
temp files I didn't need so Norton could scan in 20 minutes instead of 2
hours and scanned for viruses;
Norton said I didn't have any;
Something weird is going on though and I still stand by my warning. From
Or-roots the attachments are only coming from Marsha but even only some of
her letters??
Marsha, do you have a virus protection program?
My son and I then ran one of the files through Norton repair and opened
it; if there is an attachment to this email then ONE it is a virus and TWO
let me know in case it's smart enough not to come back to me.
What the files are is 800 byte to 4 KB text files almost all of which take
the subject line of the email for their file name. That in itself would be
enough to make me suspicious.
Norton claims it isn't a virus, but I sent them one anyway, I should know in
48 hours or so if I was right, hopefully they will let me know what the heck
it is about either way.
I also recieved similar attachments in email from spammers, again hit or
miss, the exact same email might or might not have an attachment dependig on
where it came from.
So AGAIN don't open an attachment if you don't know what it is, whether
there is anything to fear should be known fairly soon.
If I am wrong, my apolgies for crying wolf and especially to Marsha for
implying, though I certainly do not state, that she is in anyway at fault,
she just had the misfortune to be active more than the rest of us today and
got hit first with whatever it is.
