Salem, OR -

Mission Mill Museum kicks off its annual Speaker Series on January 15
with a presentation by Jim Kopp: Eden Within Eden: Exploring Oregon's
Utopian Heritage. The series takes place the third Thursday of the
month, January-April, 7:30pm, at Mission Mill Museum, 1313 Mill St. SE
in Salem. Single ticket prices are $8, $6 for museum members.

Jim Kopp is Director of the Aubrey R. Watzek Library at Lewis and Clark
University in Portland, and holds a PhD in American Studies from George
Washington University and other graduate degrees in history and library
science. As a native Oregonian, he has long felt that there was a sense
of the ideal in the state, seeing that as a driving force in early
settlement and other areas including modern urban planning. His
presentation examines aspects of Oregon's heritage of attempts at
reaching a perfected society.

Mr. Kopp's presentation comes to Salem from the Oregon Council for the
Humanities' Oregon Chautauqua program, serving Oregonians with a variety
of public and education programs that enrich minds and broaden
perspectives.
