Latham would defintitely have qualified as country, but then in the mid
fifties Cottage Grove barely qualified as a "town" and still wouldn't be
considered a city, just a bedroom community for Eugene-Springfield. I
believe kindergarden came to CG after I started school but I could be wrong.
As to "kindygaarten" that is probably a misspelled "Pogoism" for those
unfamiliar with the works of Walt Kelly they were political comics of the
"Doonesbury" ilk that reached the high point during the McCarthy era and had
a bit of resurgence during the Nixon-Agnew gestapo period. I acquired a
taste for them for their buffoonery long before I understood their politics
and then became a collector of same as an adult.
It has been noted a "time or two" in my life that my manner of speech is
somewhat unique (euphamism for downright weird) and I owe no small part of
this to Mr. Kelly, my son still has a hard time forgiving me for the
embarrassment he had as a result of identifying a certain nearh sighted
horned african mammal as a "rhinocerwurst".
That combined with my okie upbringing (I grew up with a lot of Okies
around) and my families penchant for puns and malaprpisms has renderd my
speaking manner near indecipherable to many.
I suppose this isn't "exactly" genealogy but since a number of you'all have
probably noticed I ma a little strange I guess explaining the hereditary
origins thereof sorta counts.

<<kindygaarten?>>
Had to be living in the city, us country folk didn't have kindygaarten.
