  It was the 1990 census that was destroyed by
  fire.  Some of it exists but is so water damaged it is about useless.  It does exits in

    In my roving through the either I found a note about the 1900 Census which said it had been destroyed by fire!  Don't know if that is true or not, but would explain the trouble finding stuff.
