[or-roots] HWY 20 east of Foster

The picture below was taken in August, 2000.  This is what is left of the old HWY 20 at the east end of the Shea property near Foster; after the Foster Dam was built.



I'm not sure how much of the old road exists today, but some of it can be seen under the water.

This picture was taken near what was the top of a steep hill.  At the bottom of that hill was a large Fir tree where the road took a left turn.  Many a car missed that turn, but they did not miss that tree!  A large patch of bark was missing on the side of the tree that faced west (up the hill).  I'll never forget the day I saw a Buick wrapped around that tree (about 1945).  The tree survived, but the 4 occupants of the Buick did not; it was on display at a Sweet Home wrecking yard for many years.
