Found a Charles McKay with a daughter born at Fort Vancouver.

This 10 day of the month of June [1845], we have baptized Adelaide McKay daughter recently born in the Fort Vancouver of Marguerite of Wallawalleh and of Charles McKay American. Godfather and Godmother [Rocque Ducheny and his wife [ Marie Rondeau] P J Nobili SJ. Catholic Church Records of the Pacific Northwest Vancouver II pg 59 B 292-3.

Might they have come in with the Hudson Bay Brigade by boat??

I am researching a McKay family that was here with the Hudson Bay company by 1832. Unlikely Charles belongs with this family but possibly they were related in Scotland. John McKay, b. 1813, Braal, Halkirk parish, County Caithness, Scotland.

  Hello Everyone,

I'm a newbie to the list and am wondering if any of you might be related. My ggg-grandparents left the Red River Settlement in Canada and went to Oregon in 1841. Their names were Charles Richard McKay (b. Feb 8, 1808) and Letitia Bird (Feb 10, 1810). They are both buried at the Harrison Cemetery in North Plains about 20 miles west of Portland.

Oregon history about this family is somewhat different from the Canadian research that I've done. I'll be happy to share it if it turns out that anyone is interested.

  Take care,
  Carma McKay
