History of Foster/Sweet Home

My late brother Doug (1938-1997) and I watched that RR bridge being built across HWY 20 just east of Foster. I don't remember the year, but it was before 1948; that was the year we moved to Long St., and away from the Shea property.

HWY 20 back then didn't have the traffic it has today, and who would have thought that 2 lanes under that bridge would NOT be enough. I sure didn't. And I was only 7 or 8 years old at the time.

I remember the day Doug and I found a tire carcass near that bridge. We knew that it was a "pre-war" tire because of it's rubber composition. I don't know that I could do that today, but I sure could do it then.

Cecil

PS: Yes, I remember the first synthetic rubber balloons. OOPS!
