This Old House ca 1944
I'm not really sure when this house was built, but I was told that it was 75 years old when we lived in it (1943 - 1948). I do know that it was torn down a few days after we moved out of it. This was the house of Jeremiah Shea. This is the best photo I have of This Old House. Every picture my mother took of the front of the house was a double exposure. That's Doug (left) and me sitting on stairs.
The second floor was two large rooms that were never finished. My mother used the room on the right to hang laundry on rainy days.
On the ground floor (from left to right) bedroom, living room and kitchen. We had no electricity until the Willamette National Lumber Mill was built. We did have several electric appliances that were in storage in a small room behind the "bedroom". My mother promissed waffles the first Sunday after we got electricity, but that didn't happen until the second week.
I still have the 5 tube Philco radio my father bought at the end of WWII; at White's Furnature in Sweet Home. I'm afraid to plug it in to see if it still works. Oh! The programs we listened to,
Most of the Shea homestead is now under Foster Dam Lake. :-(
