Christmas 1945 in the Shea house

In 1945 we were living in the Shea house at Foster. We had 20 acres; half of which had been cleared. There were many trees on the eastern half of that property.

Keep in mind that I was 6 years old at the time.

I woke up long before the rest of the family, dressed myself, and went out to get a Christmas tree. I took my dad's axe, and it didn't take me long to chop down a wonderful tree. Too bad it was far too large for the Shea house. So I went back and found a smaller one. I remember the decorations my mother had for that tree, but I don't know what has become of them.

Most of that land is now under Foster Dam Lake, and there are no trees for Christmas.
