Carisa,

Did you get the copies of the Hood River records from the state
archives? We have the Marriage License, the Medical Certificate for Asa
Marion White and the Certificate of Marriage.  The marriage licence
includes a notation from Lawalta Knowles' mother giving her consent to
marry Asa.  The mother's signature appears and gives her name as Mary I.
Whaite.  She also signs as witness on the marriage certificate the other
witness is William A. Isenberg.  They married in the office of A. W.
Onthank

The spelling of her first names on these documents varies: Lawalta,
Lawatta, and Louratta.

Photocopies of these three records would be available from the
Archives. You could email the reference staff directly if you wished to
or visit the Archives and make the copies yourself.

She did leave her husband Asa M White as well for another man. I've
looked 
for a Divorce certificate but didn't find one. She moved to Washington
for a 
little while and hand another Daughter Bernice G. in the 1930 Census
she was 
in Coos County, North Bend Oregon. They list her has being Married to 
William H Palmer. But from what a geneological source for the Asa
White's 
side of the family says they never did divorce. I have done searches on
both 
last names. The only reason I came across Lawalta in the 1910 Census is
they 
had a Mary Lauretta Knowles listed as age 6. I looked at the image and
it 
isn't Mary Lauretta, but Mary Lawalta Step-Daughter to Henry A Whaite
in 
Kennewick Washington. So sometime inbetween 1910 and 1920 She started
using 
her middle name.  I also traced her mother and step-father down to 
California in 1930 where her step-father passed later on. But I still
can 
not find a trace of Lawalta aka Mary. I have found alot of Mary White's
very 
common name, but it's hard to narrow it down. I just continue searching

hoping I run into something I missed.

Some where there was a rumor that Lawalta might have had Mental
problems 
since she did leave her 3 year old daughter and run off with another
man. 
Does anyone know where I might be able to get indexes of asylums? It is
a 
possibility to look into.

Think I'll upload my gedcom file, hopefully that'll help

I have to thank everyone again for all the help and ideas you are
giving me. 
It is very generous and a blessing when you've been banging your head 
against the walls trying to figure things out! =)
