I don't know about the place names listed, but I believe (couldn't be sure
of the range but assumeing baseline is willamette Meridian this is the
place) your ancestors homestead is still pretty much in the middle of
nowhere;
Nearest referent I could find is Red Bridge State park, the homestead is a
couple of miles towards Hilgard Jct from there and may be closer to the
Junction, the scales they offer at the follwing location make this a bit
imprecise;
http://terraserver-usa.com/image.aspx?T=2&S=13&Z=11&X=249&Y=3135&W=1
this link will give you a digital image of the topo map of section fifteen;
which will be the reddish lined square to the left of center of the screen
with the heavy black and red line showing highway 244 running horizonatally
across about a third of the way from the bottom of the section, you will
nituce a black line running a zig zag course from the left margin of the
section on the horizontal halfway across; when it hits the first vertical
zag it is running the west boundary of S½NE as described in the USGLO info
you will find on the link provided, when it zigs to the right again it is
running along the north boundary of that same portion of the homestead, if
you extend the second zig to the right edge of the section you will have
outlined the north boundary of that part. Notice however directly below the
second zag at the bottom of the section there is a field of green that cuts
of in a straight vertical edge which runs across the section line into
section 21; this line would be approximately the west boundary of E½SE, if
you extend that margin vertically until it intersects and extension of the
first zig of the zig zag line running frm the west boundary of the section
you will have defined the west boundary of E½SE. To finish the description
of the homestead then return to the point where the second zig intersects
the east boundary of the section and follow the section line south and then
west to the green vertical line any you have an L shaped piece of ground of
about 160 acres which was the homestead.
The fact that it shows up on the map clearly outlined by the fields of green
makes me think that the patent was ultimatley taken over by someone, if not
your Grandpa.
