First for all you folks with Stevens surname in your family tree check this
out;

http://www.geocities.com/joycestevensturel/

If you can tie into these folks you will have hit gold if their work is half
as good as it looks, more specifically if you link to them you will get the
pleasure of seeing a bunch of cousins life stories with pictures. I wish I
had the ambition to do this with my family, of course i would be a pig and
want to do this with all my kin and half the photos we have that would make
a site like this we don't know who the heck they are any more.

Now on to Laverne, I didn't find him in Oregon State Archives, but didn't
find my Laverne French either and I know he died in Oregon, so not positive
proof your Laverne is still around. I find the remark " don't have a
relationship with" very distressing, I assume this is not a good thing, at
least I would be very distressed to have kin about whom I had to say that.

I have tried googleing him and the only likely possibility is in the payroll
dept of Texas tech University, all the other Lavernes I turned up on google
were either women or definitely not your guy.

Sue places Homer in Guthrie Co. Iowa which should have made him easy to
find, but when I pulled up the Godfrey's in that county, no Edward, thinking
perhaps he is with another relative, say a much older brother I took the
youngest first and things get curiouser;

I have had no luck running Will/Edward down in 1910 or 1920, even went so
far as to check out the 1900 neighborhood and no luck, though census pretty
poor there in 1910. So I tried looking for Edward in 1880 and i think this
may be your folks;

 I came to this conclusion based on the fact that I found a Jamima in
guthrie county in 1900; she is widowed, living with dau Hattie age 15 who is
her fourth living child of four, Jamima b. Nov 1849 and Hattie b. jul 1884
the only particular that doesn't check is in 1880 she lists mother as b. in
Ohio and in 1900 give Illinois;

 GODFREY JAMIMA 51 F W IL IA GUTHRIE RICHLAND TWP 1900

 If I wanted to be a real hero I would try to push these folks back one more
generation, but am sleepy and tired so instead am going to send this off.

Leslie,

That is some really great information you have. Let me give you what I
know. I didn't want to type it all in at the time.

Bessie Mae Stevens; parents - Thomas Stevens and Minnie Bell Snyder
(Stevens); born 1/29/1898 in Linden, IA.

Homer Godfrey; parents - Ethel Crosson and Edward Godfrey (I guess I did
have his parents, sorry!); born 7/10/1895 in Jamaica, IA.

After Bessie and Homer married they lived in Washington, IA for a while. I
don't know when they moved to Oregon.

Their daughter, LaVonne is still alive however I don't have a relationship
with her. How do you find out if their son LaVerne is still around?

Thank you for your help! I don't have any clue about Thomas Stevens' family
at all. I do have a lot of Minnie's though.

Thanks,
Tina Jacobson
