Still remember it, heck I still own it. After an eight year apprenticeship
driving an 1949 Alice Chalmers model B tractor and occasionally the old T6
dozer, Dad started teaching me how to drive in the '59 ford PU. Clutch and
Brake are on opposite sides on the AC from what they are in autos, so when I
went to hit the brake going down the hill from line fence gate (about 1/10
mile into my first lesson) panic set in as it raced away from me and into
the ditch. Back to the house to bring down the AC and pull it out so we
could continue the lesson. Ironically the '59 is also the first hand me down
vehicle that ended up in my name for a while, then back to my baby Brother
(he being 8 years my senior) and since I returned from PC it has often been
my "reliable" transportation.
These days it is mostly still around because I can't quite bring myself to
part with it. No longer much of the original truck left besides the frame,
bottom half of the engine and those portions of the cab that still haven't
turned to rust. It does sort of still have the original paint job though,
where I haven't had to rattle can over the bondo and chicken wire patches.
Of course since I'm just a kid this isn't much of a story.
