Dolores;

lotsa luck.

PS; in typical response to these kindsa things they got the gender wrong,
can't imagine why! ;-}

Dear Ms. Chapman:

Thank you for your recent inquiry regarding a military service record from
Word War I, which has been referred to ALIC: Archives Library Information
Center.

Unfortunately I have not been able to locate the meaning of the codes listed
on this record. Existing records for officers separated after 1917 and
enlisted personnel discharged after 1912 are kept at the National Personnel
Records Center (NPRC) in St. Louis, Missouri. For additional assistance,
you may want to contact NPRC directly via the information found online at
http://www.archives.gov/st-louis/military-personnel/index.html .  Also since
the Oregon State Archives is what the researcher meant by Salem Archives, as
well as where the information in question was originally found, a second
approach might be to contact the Oregon State Archives directly via the
information found on their web site at http://arcweb.sos.state.or.us/ .

If you have additional questions on other records held by NARA please direct
them to us via NARA's web inquiry form located at
www.archives.gov/contact/inquire-form.html.

I hope that this information is of use to you. Once again, thank you for
your interest in the National Archives and Records Administration.

Sincerely,
Randall Fortson

Hi Folks;

I am on a genealogy list and the following query came through;

*    *    *    *    *

I went to the Salem Archives and copied four of my uncles Military records
from Word War I. Three enlisted at the same time (brothers) and were sent
to Vancouver Barracks in Washington.

I am trying to interpret some of the answers on the forms. I tried to type
it carefully as I could reading with a magnifying glass. :

Under the heading of Rank and Promotions: Distinguised service. Medals and
citations.

4 X.

Under the heading of Locations:

5A E4

Length of service Jan 31, 1918 to June 16, 1918 France.

Under Military Service:

Co. D 25th Engineers, transferred to Co. D 33rd Engineers, No. 4 Cas Def.
33rd Engineers; 28th Co 7th Bn. 151st  D.B.

I would appreciate any help that I can get. Is there anyway to find out
where in France.

*    *    *    *    *    *    *

Now I am sure somewhere online you have the answer to her questions, but I
CAN'T find it!

If you do have links to sites explaining the meaning of the various lines of
military records, it would be good if said links were more prominently
displayed along with your search information.

Thank you.
