Although we still have these storms; I now live FAR inland.  :-)

  Cecil,
     We were Naha, Okinawa when we had a big storm come though the tug captain refused to help us out to sea. So we put the anchor chain over on the bow and a huge steel cable over on the stern. All night long you could here the 8 in. hawsers  snapping one at a time. The next morning all we had holding us to the dock was the anchor chain and the cable. Worse ride I ever had tied to a cement dock. 

  Fun being a Sailor HUH!!!!
