According to Oregon Geographic Names by Lewis A. McArthur: Wilhoit,  
Clackamas County. John Wilhoit took up a land claim at the present location of  
Wilhoit post office about 1866. There were attractive mineral springs in  the 
vicinity and Wilhoit took up the property on that account and operated a  health and 
pleasure resort. The post office was established in 1882 and closed  on 
September 29, 1928.
