He was a railroad fireman -- the guy who stoked the boiler on the locomotive.

Looks like you got some information from others on his death, at least.

|
|I found someone in the 1920 census in the Oregon State
|Penitentiary in Salem, Oregon. I'm not finding him in the
|1930 census.
|
|Does anyone have any idea where I could find more information
|on the following gentleman.
|
|Name:	Clifford J Gaar
|Age:	24 years
|Estimated birth year:	abt 1896
|Birthplace:	Washington
|Race:	White
|Home in 1920:	Salem Ward 6, Marion, Oregon
|Sex:	Male
|Marital status:	Married
|Able to read:	Yes
|Able to Write:	Yes
|Mother's Birth Place:	United States of America
|Father's Birth Place:	United States of America
|
|Source: Year: 1920; Census Place: Salem Ward 6, Marion,
|Oregon; Roll: T625_1498; Page: 3A; Enumeration District: 353
|
|His previous profession appears to be R.R. something-or-other
|(fire-something)
|
|The lady that I think was his wife, died in 1942 in California
|on the California Death Index, remarried, not finding her in
|1930 under any of three last names.
|
|I did find the son of Clifford Gaar living with his
|grandparents in California in 1930 census as a 9 year old,
|born June 1920.
