For future researchers:
I still have additional avenues to pursue - but this is what I have found
so far - just in case anyone else is looking at this man/family. (Clifford
married into a family of mine - and every so often I chase after the
married into's)
Clifford GAAR - In 1900 U.S. Census he was enumerated in the household of
his grandfather George DeBord
Grandmother - Eliza A. DeBord, Uncle Eli DeBord and a cousin (grandson to
George) Guy E. Wilson age 10
Name: Clifford Gaar
Home in 1900: Independence, Polk, Oregon
Age: 5
Birth: May 1895
Birthplace: Oregon
Father Born: Don't Know, Mother Born: Oregon
Race: White
Relationship to head-of-house: Grandson
Source: Year: 1900; Census Place: Independence, Polk, Oregon; Roll: T623
1351; Page: 11B; Enumeration District: 175.
I'm not finding anyone of interest in the 1910 census - Not Clifford Gaar
or any of the DeBord's
I did look at the 1880 census - and see three daughters of George DeBord
and assume that two of them are the mothers of Guy and Clifford ... but
which ones .....

1920 I find the bride to be still with her father - and Clifford Gaar in
the Oregon State Penitentiary.
1930 I can't find Clifford Gaar anywhere. Neither can I find his bride -
the previous Alva Seely - or who I think she is from the California Death
Index -
BISPIKIS ALVAE DOLORES 07/29/1904 ZURGHER SEELY F CALIFORNIA SAN
JOAQUIN 05/02/1942 37 yrs
If this rings any bells with anyone, I'm interested. I will be requesting
death certs from California for the wife under the new name and Clifford
GAAR from San Francisco.
I'm not convinced that J.C. GARR in Washington County in 1919 is the same
person as Clifford J. GARR in Marion County, Oregon State Penitentiary in
Salem in 1920.
Wouldn't Washington County be jail and Marion County be real deal prison -
and then there is the matter of J.C. vs. C.J. - Is not the prison system
real into exact names .....
Thanks for all your help and if and when I get more info I'll share it with
the archives .....
I missed being able to check out San Francisco newspaper records by a
couple of hours to check out if there is an obit for Clifford GAAR in San
Francisco newspapers - I'm still a working person, and only got off 2 hours
this afternoon......
And I said R.R. fire-something or other because I couldn't read the letters
beyond R.R. Fire .... and I pushed the resolution up past 400 per cent and
I looked at the computer screen from a couple of feet behind the computer,
usually pushing the resolution way-up and steppping back in the kitchen
makes me see the writting on the census registers.

R.R. could stand for Railroad and your firemen or something could mean he
was a firemen on the railroad. You could check with the railroad
retirement board in Chicago to see if they have records on him.
