Salem, OR - Celebrate a Victorian Valentine's Day at Mission
Mill Museum

Experience a Valentine's Day with a Victorian flair on Saturday, February
12, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Mission Mill Museum offers a host of activities for
children of all ages. Make your own lacy sachet, scented bath salts, or
other hands-on crafts; decorate a heart-shaped cookie; try writing with a
quill pen; and play old-fashioned games like hoops. Volunteers, some in
Victorian costume, will assist you. The band Liberty Road will be playing
from 11:00am-1:00pm. Liberty Road is a traditional, four-piece string band
that plays lively old-time, foot-stomping dance tunes, vocals, and specialty
tunes. The band has performed at Salem's World Beat Festival and at First
Wednesday, Stayton's Covered Bridge Festival, Busick Court restaurant, house
concerts, private parties, and other events, as well as at Mission Mill
Museum. A story-teller will present Victorian tales, and there will be
vendors with creative items for sale. The winners of Mission Mill Museum's
Victorian Valentine's Day Poetry Contest will also be announced at the
event.

The Thomas Kay Woolen Mill was built in 1889, at the height of the Victorian
Era and had significant impact on Salem life. Victorian Valentine's Day
brings the crafts of this bygone era to life for children of today to
explore. The cost for Victorian Valentine's Day is $2.00 a person and
Mission Mill Museum Members are free. The day includes Victorian
activities, storytelling, and entertainment. For more information please
contact Tracy Prien at Mission Mill Museum at 503-585-7012,
tracyp at missionmill.org or visit the website www.missionmill.org.
