Dear Listers,

Below is an email I received from Jackson County Clerk regarding a
message that was posted on our list a week or so ago. Her email
describes the current situation for gaining access to records which were
once stored in the County Archives. If you are interested in
determining which records custodian you need to contact you might refer
to our County inventory list for Jackson County at:

http://arcweb.sos.state.or.us/county/cpjacksondescrip.html

If you are unable to determine which office is the custodian you should
contact the County Clerk's office as they are the records officer for
the County.

Hope this is helpful.

Regards,

It is true that Jackson County went into a contractual agreement to
provide record storage holdings with a private agency. This was done
due to budget considerations. The agreement has been in effect for
eight months now.

Public records are indeed available to anyone who needs them by going
to the department that originally recorded, filed or originated the
document. Let me be clear about this, no one has cut off access to
any
public record. In the eights months this agreement has been in
effect,
I have not had one complaint of anyone being denied access to a public
record.
