Helen;
hopefully someone will make a liar of me, but I know a lot of my ancestors
did not have obits, especially that far back, unless he was a person of
importance, or family wanted to pay for it.
Obits are "usually" provided as a public service now, but not always even
today.
As I say, hopefully someone can make a liar of me, I know my great gram had
an obit, but she was the widow of a man of some importance in early Oregon
politics was the main reason she got in.

My cousin, Alexander B. Hamilton, died in Portland Dec 23 1898. I have
tried to find his obituary in the Ancestry.com newspaper and obituary
databases without
success-- they do not cover the year 1898. I would really appreciate it if
someone could do a lookup for me. Thanks ever so much.
Helen
